Our Story so far...... Florries was born out of a respect for good food and hospitality and our love of hiking, cycling and the great outdoors… Although you could say that the conception of Florries came about a quarter of a century earlier when my grandmother, Florence Hogg, and I would spend sunny afternoons in the garden watching the hikers of Hadrian’s wall (fondly known as the ‘woolly ‘ats’) coming up King Bank in need of a rest and refreshments and often they would stop for a chat and a slice of nickie cake. Florrie had ambitions at that time to provide cream teas for the walkers someday! Fast forward to 2014 and, inspired by Florrie’s ambitions, our dream of building a business in the Cumbrian countryside catering for likeminded individuals is now a reality. Joss and I have taken the opportunity to develop the ideally located old barn in the grounds of Kingbank into a bunkhouse and café purpose built for guests wishing to explore this beautiful and historic region. New and modern, with a relaxed atmosphere, we pride ourselves on providing a high level of comfort with personal service and with a quality of furnishing not always seen in bunkhouse accommodation; we aim to give a lot more at little cost. Our café and garden (open Saturdays and Sundays) is the perfect place to relax with a drink and a light lunch or take shelter/shade from the changeable weather and enjoy a tasty homemade cake whilst taking in the view. A sustainable philosophy is at the heart of everything we do, and we are committed to using local produce in our cooking, heating our bunkhouse with renewable energy and we encourage and applaud our guests efforts to travel to Florries under their own steam on foot or by bike.
